The Ministry of Education has extended the deadline for submission of scholarship and loan applications by university and college students under the Student-Centred Funding Model.
Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research Dr. Beatrice Inyangala urged students who have not applied for funding to do so before the August 15, 2024 deadline. The closing date was initially set on August 5.
In a statement on August 5, PS Inyangala revealed that as of August 4, only 79,035 students out of the 153,275 placed by KUCCPS had applied for both scholarships and loans.
Dr Inyangala said the Ministry of Education opened the Higher Education Funding portal for scholarship and loan for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort on June 18, 2024.
“The government remains committed to providing quality and affordable education to students in universities as well as TVETs. Under the Leave No One behind framework, we urge all students who have not yet applied for loans and scholarships to do so,” she said.
She added that from August 19 parents and guardians will be informed of the university fees/household contribution towards the cost of university programmes.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, the Universities Fund disbursed Sh12 billion for scholarships to students in public universities. The agency had received 113,075 applications as of June 30, 2024.
