The Universities Fund (UF) was awarded ISO 9001:2015 recertification by the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), reaffirming the Fund’s commitment to quality, continuous improvement, accountability and reliable systems in the delivery of higher education financing in Kenya.
UF Ag. Chief Executive Officer Dr Edwin Wanyonyi underscored that the fete demonstrates the Fund’s capability to safeguard public funds and ensure it delivers its mandate of financing university students.
During the ceremony hosted by the Fund on 21st August 2026 in Nairobi, Dr Wanyonyi pointed out that the recertification will help boost public trust, especially among students, and assure stakeholders that scholarship application and funding processes are carried out through transparent and reliable systems.
“Today is not simply a ceremony to receive a certificate. Today is a celebration of a culture of quality, continuous improvement and excellence. Most importantly, it is a reaffirmation of our commitment to both public and private universities and the hundreds of thousands of Kenyan students whose dreams of university education depend, directly or indirectly, on the effectiveness of the systems we operate,” Dr Wanyonyi said.
Dr Wanyonyi applauded his team and the Board of Trustees for nurturing a culture of prudence and accountability, which has enabled effective processing and allocation of financial resources to needy students.
He expressed the significance of quality systems in processing data and allocating funds, pledging that the Fund will continuously improve its internal mechanisms to realise its mandate.
“And when we improve our systems, we are not simply improving internal processes. We are improving the prospects of Kenya’s next generation,” he added.
Similarly, UF Board Chairperson Prof Karuti Kanyinga said the achievement reflects the Fund’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, governance and systems to effectively deliver its mandate.
“The true test of this recertification will be whether we strengthen public confidence in the Fund at a time when fiscal space is reducing. As the Board, we remain committed to providing the leadership, policy direction and oversight required to sustain this culture of excellence,” Prof Kanyinga said.
ISO 9001:2015 provides an internationally recognised framework for quality management. For the Fund, its value extends beyond compliance by strengthening systems, improving processes, managing risks and supporting consistent delivery of quality services to students, universities, government and other stakeholders.
